The Reau McBride Scrapbook Collection
What is the Reau Scrapbook Collection?
The Reau Scrapbook Collection is an extensive collection of newspaper clippings, magazine articles, art, photographs, and most notably almost 170 pages of handwritten letters written between 1917 and 1919 by men serving overseas in the US military during the First World War. I had the very unique opportunity to purchase this scrapbook and it's contents directly from the family in March of 2022 and have been partaking in extensive preservation efforts and research into the contents of this scrapbook since I acquired it. The scrapbook itself was assembled by Reau McBride in approximately 1919 to 1920 in an antique ledger book from the turn of the century and was handed down to her son, Edmond Milburn “Mibs” Stryker (11/21/1926 - 3/18/2019) and her daughter-in-law, Jane Anglen Clark Stryker (4/21/1927 - 9/22/2021). The scrapbook was then cared for and kept by Reau's daughter-in-law until her passing in 2021 when her daughter Melissa Jane Stryker discovered the scrapbook in her home upon her passing. It was at this time that Melissa put the scrapbook up for sale on Facebook marketplace where I stumbled upon the listing and went about acquiring the scrapbook from her for my collection. Pictured to the right is the front cover of the scrapbook not long after it was discovered by Melissa that was used in the original listing I purchased it from. This section of the website is dedicated to the stories of these people held within this scrapbook and to produce a digital archive of the contents of the Reau Scrapbook Collection.
