WW1 German Frontlines Postcard

This photograph provides an excellent depiction of a conglomeration of late war German troops. Throughout the photograph there is a wide variety of uniform types, the wearing of caps ranging from crusher style visors to very worn standard field caps, and many different awards. Of the awards visible in the photograph there is three iron cross second classes present, two ribbon bar awards, and some sort of wound badge or other silver breast badge. This is quite simply a spectacularly variety filled and detail rich portrait from the final weeks of the First World War. This artifact was acquired from a small antique store in the Cleveland area from a box of miscellaneous antique photographs.

On the reverse of the photograph the first thing that sticks out is the mail stamp showing that it was processed October 20th, 1918 in Braunschweig. To the immediate left of the stamp you can see the word "feldpost" written out. As for the rest of the script on the back of this postcard the writing is acually very well preserved however, the very tightly written German cursive script is extremely difficult to read and translate so I unfortunately can go no further with this artifact at this time.
