Richard's Letter to Secretary of the Navy

1588 Rosewood Ave.

Lakewood, Ohio

June 23, 1949

Secretary of the Navy.

U.S. Navy Dept.

Washington, D.C.

Dear Sir;

Would you please inform me how I can obtain a copy of U.S. Naval Photographs, compiled by Captain Edward Steichen, U.S.N.R., published by U.S. Camera, New York.

Evidently this book was published for the purpose of distribution to discharged Navy personnel of World War II, as the Forward states “To the Officers and Men of the U.S.  Navy - you are leaving the Navy which you made victorious in the greatest war in history. These pictures will go with you as a reminder of a job well done. May you in your civilian lives help to keep deadly danger from threatening our Nation again.” - James Forrestal, Secretary of the Navy.

A friend of mine now serving in the U.S. Navy - but not during the war - obtained one of these. It would be of particular interest to me as I participated in several invasions which are shown in this book.

Sincerely,

Richard G. Fritz
